Iran and Vestas energy company of Denmark have begun a fresh round of cooperation in wind energy industry. Iranian power industry and Denmak’s Vestas company have started collaboration by helping generate electricity from wind, transferring the knowhow of wind power plants and turbines, and integrating wind networks. Speaking during a workshop on ‘wind energy and the electricity distribution network management’, Vice president of Vestas Wind Systems Mediterranean Iñigo Sabater said “100 per cent of Denmark’s electricy demand is supplied with installation of turbines and wind farms.” “Currently, wind power marks the main energy source in 34 countries while the issue still remains immature in Iran indicating a great opportunity for the development of wind power generation capacity in the Middle Eastern country,” he underlined. Emphasizing that under the present circumstances, the production of electricity in wind power plants is economically viable, Sabater asserted “consequently, we are seeking venues to expand wind energy in Iran.” Akbar Shabanikia, Deputy Head of Renewable Energy Organization of Iran, also said the organization is currently updating Iran’s wind energy encyclopedia, which is projected to take a year. “The wind encyclopedia is being designed employing satellite data and it can provide sufficient information for investors who aim to venture in Iran’s wind industry,” he added. Founded in 1898 as a blacksmith shop in western Denmark, Vestas started producing wind turbines in 1979, and has since gained a market-leading position with 74 GW of installed wind power and more than 50 GW under service globally.
