Gamesa to define future of wind energy

Time:10 Mar,2016
KARACHI: Pakistan is in the grip of severe energy crises and there is a dire need to explore alternative renewable energy sources to alleviate the shortage of power. Gamesa, which is a global leader in the design, manufacture, installation, operation and maintenance of wind turbines, on Wednesday organised its first technological seminar in collaboration with Orient Energy Systems at a local five star hotel in Karachi. Ambassador of Spain in Pakistan Carlos Morales Sanchez inaugurated the seminar, which was attended by local stakeholders including developers, engineers, consultants and investors from various institutions. During the seminar, it was estimated that Pakistan loses around 3 percent of its GDP due to the energy crises while the country has the potential to produce more than 40,000 megawatts through wind energy. Gamesa a global leader in the energy sector and with the collaboration of Orient Energy Systems (Pvt) Ltd, it is set to redefine the future of wind energy in Pakistan. On the occasion, Gamesa displayed its wind turbine product portfolio, specifically the G114-2.0MW turbine, which has emerged as a standard-bearer in the sector thanks to its low power density model. The model is designed to yield more power at high temperature and manage dust condition. Gamesa has installed more than 370MW of this model in markets as diverse as Portugal, Brazil, USA, Sweden and Italy. Wind energy is the best possible and low cost renewable resources available in Pakistan. The potential, for the use of alternative technologies, has never been fully explored in Pakistan. Alternate Energy Development Board Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Amjad Ali Awan on the occasion gave an introductory address highlighting the situation of wind energy sector in Pakistan. Alternate Energy Director Mehfooz Ahmed Qazi also spoke during the inauguration of this historic seminar.
